Important News About District CrossFit

We have some incredibly exciting news

As many of you have probably heard by now, thanks to the Washingtonian, we are very happy to announce that District CrossFit will be opening a new location in the Southwest Waterfront.  The new gym will be located on 1525 Half Street SW in eyeshot of the National’s Ballpark.  So close, in fact, that when the Nationals hit a homerun you won’t be able to hold a conversation on the phone because of the roar of the crowd.  Ever since we were kicked out of 624 NY Ave a year ago, we’ve been looking for a long term home for District CrossFit.  We couldn’t be more thrilled with this location and the space itself.

The new space will be 10,000 square feet.  To put that in perspective, our New York Ave. location is just shy of 3,500 square feet.  We plan on not only having over twice the amount of space for our regular group classes but we’ll have a dedicated space for individual workouts.  Platforms, squat racks, GHDs, Reverse Hypers, sleds, rings; any piece of equipment you’ll need for your own workout will be at your disposal (including things you never thought of).  But perhaps the most exciting addition will be (….drum roll please…) a locker room complete with two showers for men and two showers for women.  Still no lavender handsoap, but you’ll at least be able to be ready for work directly after your workouts.  In addition we plan on having some limited child care services for your youngins as well as a full CrossFit Kids program for the school age kids.  There is also tons of free parking around (even during a Nationals game) and easy metro access via the Navy Yard metro stop.

We are also in the middle of negotiations to bring in a partnership that we think would be of incalculable value for every member: a full service physical therapy studio.  We are hammering out details with our favorite physical therapist, Dr. Michael Moses, to open a full service PT studio in its own section of the gym.  Currently we have set aside about 1,000 square feet for Dr. Mike and his team.  He wants to have a chiropractor, physical therapist, massage therapist and acupuncturist all at your disposal.

Barring any major setbacks, we plan on opening the doors on September 1st of this year.

Unfortunately we also have some sad news:

Potentially as soon as November 1st, 2012; we will be forced to close our doors at 635 New York Ave.  While planning a new space (even back while we were at 624 NY Ave) we have always had every intention of keeping two locations up and running; Andrew even moved to the City Vista apartments 3 weeks ago in anticipation of DCF being in the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood for a long time.  However, a few days ago we received notice from our landlord that they intend to re-develop this block with a large office building.  We are hoping to negotiate our way into a few more months at 635 but unfortunately our time here is more limited than we want.  Seeing as DCF was born on NY Ave this news is absolutely heartbreaking to us.  We’ve tried (and continue to try) to fight for every extra day we can.

We’re excited for all of you to try out the new location when it opens, but we understand if you’re unable to stay with us.  Any financial obligation to DCF that cannot be carried over to the new space and extends beyond when we leave 635 NY Ave will be voided.

We truly wish this exciting step wasn’t tempered by this melancholic news as the two came about completely independently; but we’ve been forced to play the cards we’re dealt.  If you have any questions, comments or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Whenever we receive new information about the new location or the current one we will let you all know immediately.
