Can’t say enough about how awesome the SPEAR system is. I’ve taken a few 2 on 1 classes with my girlfriend, if I was going to be here I would definitely be in. You can’t put a price on your personal safety or that of your loved ones but this class is worth every dollar.

For those interested, I finally found a recipe for carnitas that DOES NOT have added sugar. Made it tonight, it is delicious. Enjoy!

@ Justin –> did you throw the bone from the pork shoulder into the pot when you made the chile verde? I decided to make chile verde to get me through the weekend.

@ Camilla et al, I want to do it too if we can get a group together. Is someone going to take point in organizing?

@ Camilla et al, I want to do it too if we can get a group together. Is someone going to take point in organizing? Also, my GF who’s not a member of the gym is interested – so could she be included in the group rate?

Wanted to say thank you to Acacia for doing a great job with the paleo makeup WOD last night. For as many people as we had in the gym, you really made sure things ran smoothly!

Is this SPEAR a work out? A seminar? A little of both?

  16. Andrew Killion 12 January 2012 at 1:08 pm permalink

    Hey Guys,
I’ve set a little organizing thing. If you’re interested and we get 15 I’ll take the lead with Trident and set things up. Sign up on the link above.

    Deadlift: 275
WOD: 6+5 presses. Bad form too, ugh

@Octavio – I bought a 9.5# shoulder and cut it into 3 pieces. Made pulled pork with the bone section, then carnitas and chili verde with the other two. For the verde you need 1″ cubes and you do not put the bone in the pot

I’ve already registered and paid at the individual rate. Not sure if I can be transferred to the group. If possible, count me in, if not, oh well … I’ll be there either way.

For those of you going on the Paleo challenge who might be experincing some sugar withdrawals or cravings (I had a dream about donuts last night, and I don’t like donuts)– just a little info about sugar addiction.

I previously worked in the HIV/AIDs arena in SE Asia. When working with IV Drug users in these countries – heroin in particular – one of the things we did to ween them off heroin was to give them a boatload of “Smarties” candy. Reason being, sugar is so powerful and so addictive, that while they were detoxing, it would help satiate the craving.*

So if you’re feeling like you’re detoxing from cutting sugar out of your everyday life, it’s b/c you are.

*[For full disclosure, some countries don't allow methadone, so we turned to Smarties b/c they are all sugar, contain no fat and are cheap.]

  21. Eric S 12 January 2012 at 3:16 pm permalink

    @Shannon … now I want Smarties!

My head has been throbbing all day, but this is actually day 10 for me. These are the first symptoms I’ve had.

Not sure if ppl have already seen it, but i came across an interesting NYT article about vegan bodybuilding: http://nyti.ms/xjBIoa

Apparently, “vegans can get the same amount of protein with less fat or toxins, [nutritionists] argue. [For a midafternoon snack, [Jimi] Sitko sometimes eats 10 bananas.)”

Unfortunately the article doesn’t get into the science behind why this works (how 10 bananas equates to ample protein is beyond me) but an interesting read nonetheless.
