First Installment of the Paleo Seminar Series: Alison McConnell Pierce (aka The Humble Gourmand)

We’re happy to announce this Saturday at 3:45pm will be the first in our series of seminars geared towards improving your paleo lives.

Alison McConnell Pierce founded The Humble Gourmand in 2007. Originally an online food magazine, the business evolved over several years to serve a growing base of customers who demand the highest standards of freshness, quality, sustainability, and taste from their food.

Alison is a chef by trade and teaches fitness, cooking, and nutrition classes at Potomac CrossFit and Patriot CrossFit in Arlington, VA. She travels occasionally to give cooking seminars and private lessons in clients’ homes.

In 2012, you’ll see her in Counterculture Cooking, a Web-based culinary program. Watch http://counterculturecooking.com for the launch in January!

Alison will be going over the basics of food preparation and picking out healthy paleolithic meat and produce.  Be prepared to sample DELICIOUS paleo treats as well as learn from the woman who has the best farm connections in the Chesapeake Watershed.

See you at 7 pm… Looking forward to it. Eating a yummy paleo egg scramble tonight for dinner, with sauteed peppers, shallots, and applewood smoked salame. What a hardship!

Coconut oil really is a spectacular part of Paleo. I do chicken-thigh curry with coconut oil as the fat for searing the chicken before the curry braise and it’s ridiculously tasty.

Can’t wait to get back after it tonight after being away.

Here’s the coconut oil I buy:
    http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3922072
Not very expensive for the quantity you get (compared to other places I’ve seen) and is just delicious. Doesn’t burn and evaporate like butter and fat, so you don’t need much.

Trader Joes now sells big-ish (16 oz maybe) jars of coconut oil for $6! I think this might be new within the last week because I go every weekend and just saw it on Sunday.

Anyone know if Safeway carreis Coconut Oil?

  20. Annie 11 January 2012 at 4:18 pm permalink

My safeway on Capital Hill started carrying Coconut Oil. I’ve found it in the “Gluten Free” section of the baking aisle, along with agave nectar.
